Lesson 3: Create a Facebook Pixel

What’s Facebook pixel?
This is one of the most important tools for advertisers as it allows us to track conversions, track users’ behavior on the website, create audiences from those people, and thus optimize our ads’ performance and build retargeting funnels.
Disclaimer: You don’t get personal information such as email, but you are able to create audiences from those people and use them in your ads.
How does it work? Facebook generates a code, which you (or your developer) install on your website and enabling the pixel to start tracking and collecting data.
The pixel works by placing and triggering cookies to track users as they interact with your website and your Facebook ads. It can keep the tracked data for up to 180 days.

It allows you to track:

  • Overall website visitors

  • Website visitors by their time spent

  • Website purchases

  • Website add to carts

  • etc.

When any action takes place on your website (e.g. someone adds your product to their cart), the pixel installed on that page activates and logs it as an event.

Facebook pixel has 17 standard events, including:

  • Complete registration

  • View content

  • Purchase

  • Add to cart

  • Contact

  • Etc.

Even if you are not ready to start with ads and you have lots of other issues to manage, we recommend you install your pixel on your website as soon as you’ve created a Business Manager account and as soon as your website is live so it can start collecting data from any new visitors.

It’s super easy to create a Facebook pixel.

From your BM’s dashboard click on the Business Settings and on the left part of the menu choose Data sources > Pixels.

Click on the Add” button and start the creation process of the pixel (You can create up to 100 pixels through your BM).

Give your pixel a name (up to 50 characters). Enter your website so Facebook can provide the best recommendations for how to set up your pixel, then click Continue.

Well done!You did it!
